Magnificent Dome

Magnificent Dome

Here is the dome of the main cathedral of the New Jerusalem Resurrection Monastery (Resurrection Cathedral), which was built in 1658-1685 and considered to be the one of most grandiose building of XVII century Russian architecture.

The Resurrection Cathedral, was built as a similarity of a church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The model of the cathedral was brought to Russia by the Greek Patriarch Paisy in 1649. Paisy spent several months in Moscow. He met Tsar Alexis and Nikon, who was an abbot of Novospassky monastery. The influence of Paisy on the future Patriarch was a big one. Obviously in that time the idea of unification of the Orthodox lands under Moscow authority came to Nikon's mind.

We had an excellent experience with Arthur during our trip to Moscow two weeks ago. We found him to be reliable, punctual, friendly, and helpful. When we arrived in Moscow by train, Arthur was waiting outside our train car promptly at 6:30 a.m. When we left by international train, he arrived at our hotel early, took us to the station, and stayed with us until we were safely aboard. During our stay, we had an excellent tour of Sergiev Posad. Arthur also provided interesting and relevant commentary on the sites we saw and could answer any questions we had. Moscow is a fascinating city, and Arthur's services helped us enjoy it to the fullest. We highly recommend him.
