The Old Style Medieval Belfry

The Old Style Medieval Belfry

On my previous picture I showed you the old Transfiguration church (which located on the background here) and told in my notes that it was not possible for me to take a good shot of the church and bell-tower together. Here you can see this bell tower, actually more correctly to call it "medieval belfry", by its style, and the original name for it on Russian language is "Zvonnitsa".

Preparing a new picture about the tour to Zvenigorod city, I thought that it could be very interesting for you to see this photo, because of only a few medieval belfries are still extant in Russia. Also, in spite of the fact that the buildings appear with perspective distortion here, I think, that in this composition the old style bell-tower looks pretty interesting and impressive.

As like the Transfiguration church, the "Zvonnitsa" is divided into three vertical sections with two horizontal tires in which there are three arched openings for the bells. In 1993 after a lapse of 60 years, bells once more hung in their proper place.

We had the good fortune to be able to book Arthur for our wonderful 5 days in Moscow. Arthur is extremely professional, excellent English, and vast knowledge of the history and culture of Moscow and Russia. Not only is he a terrific driver and guide, he helped us find a place to stay after our choice of hotel let a lot to be desired. We noticed that some of the other tours near us were listening more to Arthur’s presentation of the history then their own tour guide. The photos that he took during our tour were outstanding and he presented us with a disc of photos when we were leaving. We have very fond memories about our stay in Moscow all because Arthur took such good care of us and every detail of the tour.
