Cathedral & Moscow-River Night

Cathedral & Moscow-River Night

This picture, which I took several hours before the New 2007 Year, I would like to devote for upcoming Orthodox Christmas, which will be celebrated in Russia on 7th of January. I think, that this view on the famous Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which considered to be the symbol of Orthodox Religion, and Moskva-Reka (Moscow-River) with the beautiful lights from both sides of the cathedral and festive decorations on the bridges in Moscow city during current winter holidays, fits to this purpose.

About the cathedral in brief:
The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is a great monument to Russian military glory and superb example of Russian architecture. It was opened in 1883, in a memory of Russian victory over Napoleon in 1812. This Cathedral had been under construction for about 40 years (1839-1883), but it was destroyed in one day, in December 5th, 1931 - during the Stalin's time, because communists decided to build "Soviet Palace" for their meetings. The Cathedral was recovered during 1995 - 2000.
