Monument to Peter the Great

Monument to Peter the Great

The monument to Peter the Great standing on a spit in the Moscow-River stands 94m high. It has the form of a pillar standing on a granite basis foundation that is crowned by a bronze boat, with the figure of Peter the Great growing out of it. The tsar holds a large scroll in his hand. The monument was unveiled during the celebrations of Moscow's 850th anniversary and was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian navy (September 5th, 1997).

We had an amazing experience visiting Moscow's important sites for the first time with Arthur guiding us through the many historical monuments explaining the stories behind them. With our 80-year old father along, Arthur was very patient with our pace, making sure everyone was comfortable and we were able to cover everything.
